Hazardous Materials Management Plan (HMMP)
loss investigation

Allen Engineering can assist in the preparation of your hazardous materials management plan (HMMP), hazardous materials inventory statement (HMIS), negotiate with authorities, and provide design team support, and general consulting.

Many jurisdictions require an HMMP. Facilities that store, use or handle hazardous materials on a large scale generally depend heavily on the actions of the employees to prevent or minimize hazardous materials incidents. Therefore, the occupants play a strong role in the overall protection of the building.

This document is somewhat different from the HMIS in that it is geared to the layout of the building and the location and use of the hazardous materials. This document provides a better understanding of how the facility operates. This information in turn provides more detailed information to the emergency responders. This plan will also include such information as the location of aisles; the type and location of emergency equipment available and location of specific shut-off valves and other operating equipment.

The storage, dispensing and use of hazardous materials are highly regulated by building and fire codes, NFPA standards, and by insurance underwriters. A comprehensive approach to hazardous materials requires thorough knowledge of applicable building and fire code requirements, and NFPA standards. Issues of non-compliance can be both dangerous and expensive to mitigate. Allen Engineering has a thorough understanding of the building code requirements for facilities utilizing hazardous materials, whether for existing occupancies, tenant improvements or new construction. Our services routinely involve analyzing client needs for the purpose of effectively developing and negotiating solutions to regulatory challenges.

Chemical fires and incidents occur in a variety of businesses. These challenges- both environmental and physical, require multi-faceted solutions. These solutions require a complete understanding of the chemical and physical properties whether stored or used, as well as methods of transfer of these materials. Understanding the hazards associated with these chemicals is critical in reducing the risks of an incident.
